A person getting treatment of reflexology does not need to undress, just to remove socks, shoes and spectacles. Men can remove their tie, tight belts to comfort themselves before the therapy. Ladies need to remove their tights or stockings. After a consultation with your reflexologist, you sit in a special chair or lie on a couch. This positions you so that you are comfortable and your feet are in the right position for the reflexologists to work. After some foot relaxation, he or she will normally work on one foot at a time in a special sequence.
The reflexologist’s fingers and thumbs work gently around your feet pressing, thumb walking and using other techniques to stimulate the flow of energy through all the zones and release any blocks or energy imbalances. If they detect a possible energy imbalance they may ask you questions to find out what it might relate to. It is normal for you to feel deeply relaxed, and you may fall asleep. After your treatment you will be given a glass of water and the chance to rest and ground yourself.
Scientific research has shown that reflexology is an effective therapy for a diverse range of health conditions: P.M.S., kidney stones, constipation, childbirth, arthritis, internal pain, tension headaches and the pain suffered by persons with terminal cancer, and, diabetes mellitus type II. Maybe it is time to take a second look at reflexology and all the claims that have been made.
Well, reflexology has a lot to contribute in its ability to provide a safe nurturing environment for people to touch each other. There is considerable research on the power of touch. This environment allows a very natural deepening of the relationship between the person doing reflexology and the receiver. Professional counselors are exploring the possibilities that this presents for their work with their clients. Reflexology also works in tandem with nutritional, herbal, or homeopathic therapies.
