Massage is a combination of science and art. This generally presents a soothing experience by an artistic hand that caress on the body to revitalize it. Massage is often based on mechanical handling of body tissues and joints or may be based on touch. Massage is a technique of touching or applying ordered or free pressure, tension, motion, or vibration through a manual process or with the help of mechanical aids to the soft tissues of the body. This includes the muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments, joints, lymphatic vessels, organs of the gastrointestinal system etc. to achieve a beneficial response.
There are several different types of massages available all over the world. The benefits of these massages may vary from soothing to revitalizing. At present over 200 massages we know techniques. To know a technique we have tried to provide a list of techniques in alphabetical order:
Are you suffering from occasional migraines due to your stiff neck?
Are you having backache problems due to long hours at the computer?
Do you lead a busy lifestyle with no time to exercise and feel constantly tired?
Are you having muscle aches and pains and have problems even lying down to sleep?
Instead of resorting to drugs and medication, a good alternative to try is remedial massage therapy. Remedial massage is a holistic treatment; that is, a treatment for the whole of the body, as well as the area being treated.
Remedial massage uses several specialized skills to locate and repair damage and speed up the body?s repair mechanism. A professional remedial massage therapist has to draw on his knowledge of anatomy, physiology, related pathology and the techniques of Swedish massage, heat and cold therapies, Kinesthetic and many other related fields for a complete treatment. Also, the professional massage therapist will use information about your lifestyle, being your food diet, exercise regime, allergies, medical history, etc. for diagnosis.
Remedial massage can involve gentle to strong strokes as well as shallow to deep strokes. It works on the fact that soft muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia are responsive to touch. Sensitive points in the muscles often refer to pain in other parts of the body. For instance, headaches may originate from muscles in the neck and certain areas in the abdominal and pelvic area can cause pelvic pains. Remedial massage helps to stimulate blood flow in these areas, thus reducing pain, swelling and pain, and speeding up the body?s natural healing process.
Remedial massage is one of the most effective and natural treatment for stress related conditions. Balance is ultimately restored to your body system when your body parts are functioning optimally. You feel a sense of renewal and more energized that ever before! Remedial massage is a therapeutic deep tissue massage that can treat specific health issues, musculoskeletal problems and injuries. It provides a wonderful relaxation if you are stressed and soothes sore, tired muscles.
Massage therapy is based on three principles. Firstly that its parts affect the body, secondly shortened muscle tissue does not work, and thirdly that soft tissues of the body respond to touch.
Massage therapists believe that the person is a whole organism and everything is connected and related, therefore the whole body reacts when parts of it are affected. For example a person with a sprained ankle will favor the injured leg, causing muscles in the hip and lower back to tighten. The in turn can cause an imbalance in the back affecting the neck muscles, causing a headache. Just treating the neck muscles will not alleviate the problem.
Muscle tissue works by contracting and so if it is shortened it can no longer work effectively. A muscle may be shortened actively or passively. For example muscles that contract due to overuse or repetitive motion and those that shorten due to under use such as when an arm is kept in a sling for long periods. When the muscle is contracted in these ways it cannot contract any further and so is not able to do the work of the muscle. We use remedial massage techniques to locate tense muscular tissue. Massage of these tense areas helps speed up the body’s own repair mechanisms to create homeostasis. High quality natural massage carrier oils are used, to which we add suitable essential oils. Essential oils contain unique natural properties that enhance the desired benefits to clients.
Remedial massage focuses on treating injuries, muscular aches and pains and postural imbalances. When muscles and tendons become damaged or impaired, knotted and tense or immobile, remedial massage provides a healing treatment that can be gentle or strong, deep or shallow. Remedial massage holistically treats the whole body and traces discomfort as far as possible back to the original cause, healing both the cause of the disorder as well as the symptoms. The soft tissue of the body changes in response to touch. That is we are able to manipulate it, soften it, stretch it and increase the flexibility of it all through the touch of massage. This may take the form of compression, passive stretching or passive shortening, or a combination of these.
Key benefits include stimulation to the blood supply, allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed, the calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort, and the toning and relaxing of muscles to improve joint mobility. An improvement to the health of the cells, the repairing of tissues, and the easing of stiffness and tension are also achieved. Muscular and skeletal dysfunctions often addressed with Remedial Massage include Fibrositis, Spondylitis, Arthritis, frozen shoulder, muscular cramps, Whiplash, muscular atrophy, sports and dancing injuries. Sessions usually take 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the whether the practitioner will just address a specific area or give a whole body massages. As oil is used, it is necessary for the patient to be unclothed for the treatment.
